9 September 2025Nuku’alofa, Tonga – 2 May 2025
The Tonga Electoral Commission (TEC) is pleased to announce its successful participation in the National ICT Expo 2025, held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall. The event, facilitated by Ms. Selu Kauvaka and TWICT, with support from the Australian Government and other sponsors, provided an excellent platform for engaging with the public and showcasing the Commission’s digital initiatives.
A highlight of the Expo was the official launch of the TWICT website, marking a significant milestone in Tonga’s digital transformation. TEC’s involvement was made possible through the collaboration with the Balance of Power body, represented by Ms. Veronica Heimuli. This partnership underscores our shared commitment to advancing public outreach and civic education.
Mr. Sam Vao, Electoral Roll Manager of TEC, represented the Commission at the opening ceremony. He engaged with attendees, providing essential voter information, electoral education, and guidance for prospective candidates. This outreach aligns with TEC’s mission to enhance transparency and accessibility in electoral processes.
As technology continues to evolve rapidly, TEC recognizes the importance of responsible and strategic adoption. With the increasing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) across all sectors—work, education, media, and beyond—the Commission emphasizes the need for careful and deliberate integration of these advancements in Tonga.
In line with this vision, TEC is currently developing its official website. This digital platform will serve as the foundation for expanding online electoral services, ensuring that the Commission remains aligned with global technological advancements while maintaining efficiency and accountability.
TEC extends its gratitude to the organizers, sponsors, and partners of the ICT Expo 2025 for this invaluable opportunity to connect with the community. We look forward to future collaborations that further empower Tongan citizens through technology and education.
