Time-frame
A candidate may request a recount within one week of the declaration of the poll for the constituency. The request must be in writing and addressed to the Supervisor of Elections.
Cost
A candidate requesting a recount must pay the Supervisor of Elections, at the time of the request, a fee of $1000 in either cash, a bank cheque drawn on a bank registered or operating in Tonga.
Result of Recount
The Supervisor will conduct the count and announce the result. The decision of the Supervisor is final.
Refund of Fee
The fee lodge by the candidate can be refunded if:
- As a result of a recount a different candidate is elected; or
- The Supervisor of Elections certifies that in his opinion the demand for a recount was reasonable.
