The roll used for the purpose of electing members of the Legislative Assembly prima facie shall be used at all elections and by-elections provided always that the printed roll in use at any election shall be updated in accordance with the Law.
Roll Information
The roll is kept by Electoral Constituencies. It shows the name and village of each elector with other relevant information such as Gender, Voter Registration Number and Personal ID Numbers as in the National Identification card.
Voter Registration is an on-going event and can be done at the Office of the Electoral Commission in Tongatapu, Governors’ Offices in Vava’u and Ha’apai as well as the Offices of the Government Representatives in ‘Eua, Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou. Voter Registration can also be carried out in the community during the roll out of the Commission’s outreach program.
Any person who knowingly gives false or misleading information to an electoral official, whether under oath or in writing or orally, for the purpose of the compilation of the electoral roll, or to affect the eligibility of any person to vote or to be a candidate at an election, is guilty of the offence of giving false information.
Provisional Roll
The provisional roll for an election should be printed not less than 6 months before the date when an election must be held. Any person may, within 2 months of the publication of the provisional, object to the Supervisor, claiming –
- that any name is wrongly included;
- that any name is wrongly omitted; or
- that any name is included in the wrong electoral constituency.
Any person whose application for registration as an elector has been refused, or whose name has been removed from the register, or who disputes the electoral constituency in which he has been registered, may appeal in writing to the Electoral Commission.
Final Roll
The Final Roll will be published no later than 2 months before the date set for the election. Those who become qualified to vote after the publication of the final roll can still register up to 14 days before the election.

The roll can be searched between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm on any working day at the Office of the Electoral Commission and at each Governors’ Office in Vava’u and Ha’apai and Government Representatives Office in ‘Eua, Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou.
